I see the therapy relationship as a profoundly collaborative process of supporting clients towards harnessing their inherent goodness and strength in the service of creating great positive change.  Sometimes these changes will be concrete improvements in life circumstances: improved relationships with others, enhanced health or enhanced performance at work.  Often, however, the most rewarding changes for clients involve the achievement of a new sense of self and hope for the possibility for growth, as well as a heightened capacity to cope effectively with life circumstances that cannot be changed.  I see individuals, couples, families and children, using an integrative approach with an emphasis on social justice issues, client empowerment and cross-cultural sensitivity.

I view each person’s life as a journey, and my goal as a clinician is to support, guide and yes, even challenge you to achieve your optimal way of being as the journey of your life unfolds.  I strive to strike a balance between using the current empirically validated treatments that are known to work best for a particular issue, and offering you a menu of choices that will fit your particular style and approach.  My orientation is strengths-based, supportive yet directive, collaborative, and as short-term as it can be.  I am not opposed to long-term therapy, but I do believe it is my job to put myself out of a job as quickly as possible.  As a result, I will try and limit our time together to what is necessary to achieve your therapeutic goals.  Thank you in advance for allowing me the honor to witness your journey!

Change is possible.  We may at times find ourselves or our relationships stuck in painful self-limiting patterns.  We may have an awareness of the problem, yet experience difficulty in bringing about the changes we want.    We can find ourselves drifting away from truly engaging in life, our relationships, and in actualizing our true potential.

In a safe and supportive environment we will establish a clear direction for our time together by exploring and creating goals.  Our work may involve: uncovering and resolving self-limiting patterns and beliefs, increasing your connection with others through opening up communication and reducing conflicts, exploring ways to attain better balance in life, healing from old wounds, reducing feelings of depression and anxiety.  Through this process my goal is for you to gain a greater sense of well being and ease, to gain increased perspective on yourself and your potential, to develop new skills, confidence, and trust in your ability to create real and sustainable change.

My style is warm, supportive, intuitive, and at times directive.  My approach is integrative, grounded in years of mindfulness based meditation practice; utilizing tools from several treatment approaches to fit your particular needs, many approaches, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, have been empirically validated to create change.  I work with individuals, couples, families and children.

I am a mindfulness-based psychologist, specializing in treatment with individual adults, adolescents and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.  I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2004 from the California School of Professional Psychology, with a focus on feminist, multi-cultural and forensic psychology.  During the past seven years, I have further specialized in forensics (working with incarcerated adults), adolescents (depression, anxiety, trauma and suicide risk assessment) and mindfulness-based approaches to treatment. Using these approaches, as well as my own meditation practice, I work to cultivate acceptance, self-compassion and an awareness of one’s present experience.  I practice from a non-pathological, spiritually-rich model in which authenticity and growth are emphasized.
